At Gunthorpe Primary School, we use an enquiry-based history curriculum. Overarching questions help our children develop an understanding of our key concepts, with a deepening understanding of each one as they progress through school. Through sub-enquiries and using our knowledge categories, we explore a wide range of significant historical events and time periods in Britain and across the globe. We explore how different societies across the world were shaped, make comparisons between civilisations and link our knowledge to our present world. Our historical understanding of our locality and who holds significance to us as a city is explored across our curriculum. We use a range of artefacts and immersive experiences to make past events real and meaningful to our children. We build our knowledge of key vocabulary to help support our children to think and discuss historically, forming judgements about the past and considering why things were the way they were.
