Science
Science education provides the foundations for understanding the world and is present in every aspect of daily life. At Gunthorpe Primary, we encourage children to be inquisitive throughout their time at our school and beyond, fostering a healthy curiosity about our universe, promoting respect for living organisms and the physical environment and a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. We believe science encompasses the acquisition of knowledge, concepts, skills and positive attitudes.
Throughout the Science curriculum, areas of learning are concerned with increasing pupils’ knowledge whilst developing skills associated with Science as a process of enquiry. The children will acquire and develop the key knowledge that has been identified within each unit and across each year group, as well as the application of scientific skills.
We ensure that the ‘Working Scientifically’ skills are built-on and developed throughout children’s time at school, so that they can apply their knowledge of science when using high quality resources, conducting hands-on experiments, making observations and explaining concepts confidently and continue to ask questions and be curious about their surroundings.
